Traditional Greek dish of baked meat with pasta. Usualy made with veal but can also be made with chicken or lamb. The pasta used is “kritharaki” orzo or “hilopites” a traditional Greek square pasta with eggs.
Giouvetsi is an easy to make recipe with very good taste but takes a lot of time to prepare it. It is ideal for a Sunday meal with the family or when you want to prepare something delicious in large quantities for many people.
You can add bay leaves or cinnamon and clove for extra flavor when adding tomato juice.
If you don't want to spend a lot of time cooking you can either use chicken instead of veal which is cooked much faster or use a pressure cooker. If you use a pressure cooker, cook the meat in the pressure cooker instead of the oven and place the ingredients in a roasting pan only for cooking the pasta.
